Encounter at the exhibition Ariel Hacohen: By the Rivers (in Hebrew)
Encounter with the exhibition curator Amit Shemma
Recipient of the 2024 Rappaport Prize for Art in Times of War
Ariel Hacohen (born 1993, lives and works in Jerusalem) recreates the "Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves" from Giuseppe Verdi's opera Nabucco in a video installation that explores the impacts of war, including grief, loss, and displacement. Against the cyclical backdrop of sunrise and sunset, the artist's figure multiplies repeatedly, forming a unified chorus that mourns destruction while yearning for home.
